And a name was born

My husband loves puns. I mean LOVES them. And every time we go on vacation, he comes up with new punny names for the places we stay. I love him, so I smile politely while he cracks himself up. Now was his opportunity to shine. He got to come up with a name for our new home. Because vacation homes always have names. Even if you don’t rent them out, there is a sign out with a cute name. He was on a quest.

One of the benefits of it being our place is that we get to bring our dogs, so he started with dog puns.

After dogs, we moved onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and Pilot Mountain View. He had a whole riff on Vistas. After all, it was the view we bought more than the place. They were so bad I’ve blocked them from my memory. I had to go ask him if he remembered any so that I could share. Deja View and Vista Villa were his favorites and Moon over Mt. Airy still made him laugh.

Each conversation ended with me groaning, him laughing, but us ultimately not deciding on a name. We decided we had to make some of the “more important” decisions, like what to sit on, what to sleep on, things of that nature and put it off. Although he did rattle off a few more… View from the Hill, Mountain Time, Robin’s Nest and of course Groundhog Mtn High.

Then, when we were discussing so many things about the place it dominated almost every conversation, he mentioned that he couldn’t wait for it to just be a getaway rather than just another list of things to do. And we got back on the discussion of names that would go with Getaway. Grand Getaway, Groundhog Getaway, Gorgeous Getaway and finally Gilded Getaway. Design meets naming and the whole purpose of our place. We bought the domain name, and he agreed to the brass faucets all in a matter of minutes. Things started falling into place.
